Many Electrified Vehicle Types
We are proud to offer three different types of electrified vehicles.
Hybrid Electric Vehicle
Hybrid Electric Vehicles combine gas engine with electric motors to generate electricity as you drive. And they never need to be plugged in.
Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle
Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles operate in the same way as Hybrid Electric Vehicles, but can optionally be plugged in for extended electric-only range.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle
Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles use hydrogen as an energy source in conjunction with electric motors, with zero CO2 emissions driving, while only emitting water from the tailpipe.

No Additional Routine Maintenance
Toyota’s electrified vehicles need no additional routine maintenance. In fact, they follow the same maintenance schedule as Toyota’s gas-powered vehicles (every 6 months or 8,000 km).
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles can optionally be plugged in for extended electric-only range. For example, Prius Prime can travel up to 1,035 km with a full tank of gas and a full electric charge.
Reduce Your Footprint
Driving a hybrid vehicle means you directly contribute to a reduction in overall CO2 emissions. Toyota’s electrified vehicles have prevented over 94 million tons of CO2 emissions globally since we launched the original Prius in 1997.

Reuse And Recycle
Over 98% of Toyota hybrid vehicles sold in Canada since 2001 have never had their original battery replaced. And, when it does come time to replace your battery, you can do so through Toyota's battery recycling program, which recycles the used hybrid batteries.
All Toyota hybrids and their components, including cables and batteries have been designed and rigorously tested for life in Canada and adhere to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Plus, Toyota Safety SenseMC comes standard on all our hybrid vehicles.
All Toyota vehicles have been extensively tested in cold weather - so they're ready to take on whatever a Quebec winter might bring.
Batteries Designed To Last
Over 98% of Toyota hybrid electric vehicles sold in Canada since 2001 have never had their original battery replaced. Starting with 2020 model year vehicles, all hybrid batteries are now backed by a 10-year/240,000 km warranty.* (*Whichever comes first)
How It Works
In most conditions, only the electric motor is engaged, saving fuel and delivering instant torque with minimal emissions.
Accelerating & Cruising
The gas engine and electric motor team up to provide the ideal mix of power for smooth, seamless acceleration. Excess energy created is used to help recharge the battery.
Decelerating & Braking
The electric motor takes over. The regenerative braking system converts braking energy into electric energy to recharge the battery onboard the vehicle.
Resting & Reversing
When stopped, the gas engine shuts down to conserve fuel. But if the battery is running low, the gas engine automatically restarts for recharging power. In reverse, typically only the electric motor is needed. This selective use of electric-only power is part of what makes Toyota hybrids cleaner and more fuel efficient than conventional gas-powered vehicles.
